Mark Wendt looked to finally have the better of Rob Buis as he took the lead on lap 40, only to misjudge the braking point into the hairpin, and he ran into the back of Jean Alesi. He pitted, but as soon as he was back on the track he spun at the esses and damaged his front wing again, losing a massive amount of time limping around almost a whole lap. Even Rob Buis had a accident in the bad conditions after sliding into a wall and damaging his front wing, demonstrating that he is not invicible after all.
In short: Lots of slipping, lots of sliding, and not much forward motion.
